This project was inspired by an idea listed on artist Harrell Fletcher’s website (to publicly install a retrospective of a well-known artist using xerox copies of their works.) We have decided to work from this foundation in order to create publicity for our program in the greater WashU community. As well, we hope to demonstrate through a thoughtful presentation, the possibilities which lie within coordinating diverse interests.
The project is based on weekly distribution of somewhat standardized flyers which include: A large image of another artist's work (the visual focus of the flyer), brief facts about the work (artist's name, title, date), and below that a small photo of the "endorsing artist" along with a quote demonstrating the relevance of that work to our own work (media, subject matter, historical reference). These flyers should be printed on available scrap 8.5" x 11" paper and distributed around the WashU campus on Sunday evening or Monday morning (the flyer boards are cleared on Sundays).
